Creating a Compelling Composition
After Bradford arrived at a
palette of workable colors, she demonstrated how to create a compelling composition. She reached
for her ViewCatcher tucked in the bottom of her 9"- x-12" Guerilla Box pochade box and
began moving the square along the horizon, searching for an interesting subject. “It’s
a little overwhelming because you have this massive landscape and this little canvas, but the viewfinder
really helps you zero in on a specific area,” Bradford said. She emphasized this step as
the most critical stage of the painting process, stating, “If you don’t have a good
composition, you won’t have a good painting. Really search for something that you are excited
about and confident you can execute.”
