About Gerard Martin Jr.

Born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula, Gerard spent his youth enjoying and appreciating the many outdoor activities available on the ocean, beaches and hill of this area.

His father was an avid sailor and fisherman and took Gerard along on many weekend adventures. Gerard's mother is a painter and helped steer him in the direction of art.

He later attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, to obtain a degree in illustration. There he had the opportunity to study under some wonderful painters such as Dan McCaw and Richard Bunkle. While at Art Center, Gerard was exposed to the unique experience of plein aire painting and it has intrigued him ever since.

Gerard has worked in this area as an illustrator and a high school art teacher for the last eight years. He lives with his wife and their two sons in Salinas. Gerard is a member of the plein aire group know as the Informalists.
